THE SUGAR SHOW

The Sugar Show is an annual performance event in it's third year, dedicated to the presentation and discussion of original, live performance. The event features the work of emerging and mid-career artists specializing in live performance (dance, theater, performance art, etc), followed by a moderated discussion between the artists and audience. At the culmination of the event, a panel of artists, educators and administrators from the dance, theater, film and visual arts fields, as well as the audience, will choose a winner from the selected finalists.

The winner of The Sugar Show Performance Event will receive the proceeds from the audience ticket sales. If ticket sales do not reach $1,000, Sugar Space and SB Dance will underwrite the remaining amount. Sugar Space will also present the artist for a full-length, weekend of performances the following season.

The aim of The Sugar Show and the grants attached to it, is to nurture exploration and creativity and promote free exchange between audiences and artists. The artists selected for the series were chosen through an open call for proposals.

The Sugar Show is a great idea. How can I help?

You can help by attending shows presented by Sugar Space (thesugarspace.com) and SB Dance (sbdance.com). Both organizations are dedicated to stirring things up in our community.

Sugar Space and SB Dance entirely underwrite the cost of this event. At this point, no grants directly support AAA. If you wish to help support AAA, you may make a contribution to Sugar Space and SB Dance for that specific purpose. Sugar Space is currently pending 501 (c)(3) status and SB Dance is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and all donations are tax-deductible as allowable by law. You may make donations specifically for The Sugar Show by clicking below!

Congratulations to Juan M. Aldape and Molly Beardmore-Heller for winning the 2009 Sugar Show (formerly Audiences Award Artists)!
